Two astounding facts: 1) Every 23 seconds, firefighters respond to an emergency call, and 2) 3/4 of all U.S. firefighters are volunteers.

I had no idea that our fire services are overwhelmingly volunteers until my friend Ken told me. Here he tells us more about why and how he became a volunteer firefighter:
