Hi Adventure Philanthropists, Today is International Women's Day – Hooray! As most of you know, I’m a long-time supporter of women’s and children’s rights. And while there’s still plenty of work to do to ensure women’s equality and safety, I want to take this week to *celebrate* recent accomplishments: During the past decade in Africa alone:
And a little closer to home, let’s applaud the passage of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), a bill that includes the re-authorization of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act—the main piece of legislation in the U.S. to address human trafficking. All good stuff! And the cherry on it all...The proportion of seats held by women in national parliaments around the world is up by 25%. What a way to start the weekend! And now for our articles this week: New: Mummies of the World, Part II Um, so perhaps I’m a bit obsessed with decayed (yet preserved!) humans… Follow my fascination with mummies with this inside look at the preserved beings of Pompeii and ever-so-fascinating Egyptian mummies: Favorite: Dune Sports! *Video* I am a die-hard fan of playing in the sand and my recent trip to the famous Namib Desert provided me another opportunity to get a little gritty! Here’re my favorite dune sports: ATV riding, dune driving, sand boarding, and my latest fav—sand sledding! Photo of the Week: Camel Safari, Sahara Desert While we’re on the topic of amazing deserts, here’s a photo from the camel safari I took in 2010 (which was ranked one of the “Seven Most Bucket List-Worthy Destinations for 2011” by FoxNews.
