Hi Adventure Philanthropists!

Last week I gave a 2-hour presentation on global cultures to a local geography club in Florida. During the Q&A session, one of the students in the group, a beautiful young girl named Neha, told me she read my post about Project PEARLS and she wanted to give a donation to help better the lives of children in the Philippines. What a lovely surprise!

So I decided to match Neha’s generous donation of $50, so that together we could give a $100 donation to support the activities of Project PEARLS, which works tirelessly to improve the lives of children and poor families living in the slums of Manila.

By matching Neha's donation, GoErinGo! Fund giving as of March 18, 2013 topped $35,160 in donations to global nonprofit organizations. Here’re a few more specifics about my charitable giving fund:

  • 69 grants awarded
  • Average grant amount $510
  • 30% of grants given to U.S. nonprofits
  • 70% of grants given to support work overseas

For full details of which organizations I support, the amount of my gifts, and their location around the world, just check out my monthly giving update! Have a favorite nonprofit? Write to me and perhaps I can match your gift too!

And now for our articles this week:

New:  Antarctica vs. the Arctic: Polar Opposites

How well do you know your ice-world geography? I knew nothing before I headed to the Arctic Circle and to Antarctica. (Although this is sort of how I like to travel because I get to learn all about a place on the spot!)

Here’s a cool comparison of our two polar regions:

Favorite: How to Pack for a Week in the Islands (aka: the Noah’s Ark Approach to Packing)

Just a few days before I arrived in Australia's famous Whitsunday Islands, the islands had survived a fly-by from Cyclone Yasi. Luckily the islands suffered little damage and they were still deserted (all inhabitants were asked to evacuate).

Here's what I packed for some fun in the sun during my island get-away:

Photo of the Week:  Bedouin on Mt. Sinai at Sunset

Several years ago I took a great trip to North Africa & the Middle East, visiting the countries of Morocco, Egypt and Jordan. This was my first time exploring the famous Sinai desert. To cap off our adventure, my friends and I climbed Mt. Sinai at sunset. And here was my reward: a magnificent view of this ancient desert with a Bedouin traveler surveying his homeland = Stunning!
