It is estimated that 318 million people live in extreme poverty, defined as living on less than $1.25 a day. In 2001, the number of “extremely poor” nations was listed at 39 countries. Unfortunately, the poverty rate in sub-Saharan Africa is increasing. I was on a 5-day boat trip to see the Komodo dragons. On the sail back, we stopped at the island of Sumbawa. Here we spent the afternoon playing in a waterfall with the local kids.
