Hi Adventure Philanthropists,

Good news for the book: We have moved into the production phase – Yahoo! We’re getting closer and closer with every week! I can almost taste it...!

REI Roadshow: And good news for the book tour! I’ve been asked by REI to conduct a 6-store roadshow in Southern California. We’ll be launching this exciting partnership at the REI store in Tustin (Orange County) on February 4, 2014 at 7:00 pm.

The partnership will include a day of volunteering and again 20% of the profits from the sale of the book will be given to a local charity. Come join the fun in SoCal!

And now for the articles this week:

Who doesn’t love elephants?! I recently came across an adorable video of a baby elephant playing in the ocean for the first time. Then I found a fascinating article in Nature on the discovery of elephant speech patterns. Both have fueled my adoration of all things elephant! And there’s even more…

Favorite: Women with Weapons vs. Slutty Nurses

With Halloween only a week away and all the adverts for costumes out there, I’m becoming obsessed with one question: Why do many women take the occasion of Halloween – when you can take on a persona of anyone or anything you want – choose to be a woman that men can take advantage of? My thoughts:

Photo of the Week: WWII Memorial, Hellfire Pass, Thailand

During my last trip to Thailand, I spent time at the Bridge over the River Kwai. While in the area, I also visited WWII memorials like Hellfire Pass, a section of the railway line that was cut from solid stone. More than 65 POWs lost their lives during the 6-week excavation process. This is the beautiful memorial to those fallen men of the Allied Forces.
