Happy New Year Adventure Philanthropists!

Hope you were able to ring in the New Year with friends and family! We celebrated by taking a sunset cruise and watching the sky explode with fireworks. We then spent New Year’s Day in a little slice of heaven, snorkeling and lounging on one of the Great Barrier Reef islands. A perfect way to start the New Year!

5-Star Amazon Review > Not only did my friend Ryan support my Kickstarter campaign, but he also bought 3 additional books as Christmas presents = Thanks Ryan! He also wrote this very kind review on Amazon:

“This text epitomizes what you truly gain from travel. The myriad of senses and emotions felt through every experience is articulated in a way that connects with anyone that has traveled or has a desire to travel and give. Most importantly, Adventure Philanthropist is a motivation to get out and make a difference in this world…Erin Michelson offers a formula for a life with a greater purpose.”

Favorite: Australia’s Apology to the Aboriginal People

“Stolen Generations” is the term used to describe the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island children who were forcibly removed from their families by the Australian government between 1869 and 1969. I learned about this period of Australian history and about the country’s subsequent apology during a side-trip I took to Canberra several years ago.

Photo of the Week: Fireworks Surprise!

We watched the fireworks this year in the tropical town of Cairns situated on Australia’s northeast coast. The band was great fun and the fireworks impressive, but what really tickled were the skydivers that descended through the dark sky, illuminated by small red lights as they navigated skillful landings on the beach = 3 Cheers for 2014!
