Hi Adventure Philanthropists,

Hope you’re gearing up for some fun with the Super Bowl. Me, I’m going to miss it as I don’t really care that much about football. I’m thinking of going ice skating instead…

But just a note as we get ready for the parties… There is anecdotal evidence that suggests Super Bowl Sunday is one of the worst days for domestic abuse in our country. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is one place to turn for help. Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit www.thehotline.org.

Photo of the Week > Elephant Village, Northern Laos

While in Luang Prabang, I spent a few days at an elephant rescue center. The elephants, formerly enslaved in logging camps, and are now cared for by the local villagers. At the rescue center, we learned to ride, feed, and bathe the elephants.

At the time, I was happy to be given the opportunity to learn more about elephants and help create a local economic enterprise. Now, however, I would abstain from riding the elephants, as I think it is a burden for them and not necessary in order for us to appreciate their majesty.
