Erin Goes on Vacation
I know what you’re thinking…why does Erin need a vacation when she’s been on holiday for more than a year?! Well, let me tell you, being a global nomad isn’t a vacation – it’s hard work!
I’m now 15 months into my 2-year around-the-world “living and giving” adventure. Since I started my global trek in January 2011, I’ve been to 41 countries and more than 109 cities. Whew!
Writing Dervish
In addition to traveling I’ve been writing at lot, a whole lot! Check it out – I just:
- Finished the first two chapters of my book (yay!)
- Published my 500th post (man ‘o man!). To view posts and archived newsletters since the start of December 2011, view here: Weekly Update Archive.
- Wrote 26 articles for other online sites in 2011. You can view these articles here: Publication Archive.
Hiking the Himalayas!
And, well, I guess I’m tuckered out. A friend suggestion I take a vacation and I think she’s right. So to rest and relax, I’m going to hike the Himalayas. During the next several weeks, I’ll be trekking the famous Annapura circuit in Nepal and I’ll be taking a 3-week break from writing.
Looking forward to absorbing the Nepalese culture and amazing Himalayan beauty and coming back rested and refreshed (and probably a little sore).
Look for my next *Weekly Update* on Friday, April 20.
Next month’s posts will be all about the tail-end of my Thailand trip, my fabulous 3 weeks in Sri Lanka (one of my 5 new *favorite* countries), and my Himalayan trek!
Namaste, Erin

Hey Erin – have a fabulous time on your trek – if I recall correctly it is all women – even the sherpas? Hiking the Himilayas does not equate to a vacation for me but I know you will have a great time and experience all kinds of wonders – Wow! We will miss your posts but it just gives me something to look forward to in a month or so from
now =)
ENJOY!!!!
Love ya’ – Lizzie
Thx Lizzie and Elaine for the well wishes! And Yes! even the porters (called “assistants”) are women. They were so strong, carrying about 15 kilos each. All are training to become guides — 3Sisters Trekking is a fabulous outfit! XO, Erin
Erin in Katmandu I have a good friend you would enjoy meeting. His name is Madan Rai at 977-1-9841746555 and ratanchha@hotmail.com
He is a vert special person.

PS: Have a good break!
Hi Noel — Had dinner wtih Madan last night — great person! He showed me his garden (and “enhanced” toilet!). Thx much for the intro! Hope all is well in Cape Town! Erin
Pretty feet.
Yes, it has been hard work, you deserve to just enjoy yourself for awhile.
Elaine
have fun erin! only you would think of a three-week trek at altitude as a relaxing vacation… ha!
oona
Hi Oona! True — but is was a vacation! Totally un-plugged with no decisions to be made = Heaven! (just like the surrounding mountain scenery!) Hope all is well in SF! Erin
Erin, read about you in NatGeo Traveler. Love that you are combining travel and philanthropy! I did a world trek with 22 countries in one year (Burma was one of my favs), and wished I had. Enjoy the Annapurna Circuit. Once the road on the west side is finished the circuit will probably never be the same. Would love to connect when you’re back!
Hi Hugh — fellow world traveler!! Thanks for your note! Yes, one reason I chose to do the Annapurna Sanctuary (instead of the Circuit) was because of the road. The Sanctuary trek was *fabulous*! Cheers, Erin
