My Hilo Hut: Hawaiian Living Mini – LivingMini®

It’s called “Yami’s Ambulana” and it is a 450 square feet cottage, so just a little bigger than I’m used to. It has a bathtub and a microwave (luxury items in my book), as well as a small frig and stove.
There’s no TV, but wireless access. There’s even a shared washer and dryer, which is coming in handy since the rain never stops and we keep having to dry our clothes.
The garden is beautiful with your typical Hawaiian foliage of coconuts trees, banana trees, and hibiscus flowers. There a little covered porch with a table for alfresco dining. Although with the rain it’s not seeing much action.
Snorkeling equipment, boogie boards, a tent, a cooler – all come with the cottage. The one addition I would make is a hammock. Nothing like swinging between two palm trees during your afternoon nap!
The cottage is in the Leilani Estates section, a full half-hour from Hilo. Our little hut is down a dirt road (so “off the beaten path”!), but luckily the bulk of the roads are well paved and well lit, so the travel is fairly quick and easy.
I was told about the cottage by my friend Jane, a friend of Camille’s, who’s ex-boyfriend’s family owns it. And get this – it’s only $49.00 a night!
To rent, contact Philip at Kolla@pair.com. Tell them Erin sent you!
p.s. I have no financial interest whatsoever in the Ambulana. I just really like it and think it’s cool.
